When decorating the tree this year I found myself yelling at my 3 and 5 year old kids because I was concerned about them breaking the ornaments that my husband has been collecting his entire life, as gifts from his Grandma. Putting up the tree was one of my fondest memories growing up, and I was ruining it for my little ones with my cautious approach. I was “The Christmas Tree GRINCH”.
I’m sure if you have kids, especially small ones, you have been in a similar situation. I recently saw a joke going around social media with a photo of a tree beautifully decorated totally fenced in by a bunch of baby gates and barbed wire. We’ve all been there!
I decided that until they are old enough to “be gentle”, we would make some paper ornaments to adorn our lovely tree. The kids can be involved in the crafting process, and if they rip one off the tree or break it… NO BIG DEAL.
You will need: double sided scrapbook paper, ribbon, scissors, and a stapler.
Step 1- Start by cutting 6 strips of paper. (two 10-inch, two 8-inch, and two 6-inch) I chose to do 1/2 inch wide strips. If you don’t have double-sided scrapbook paper, you can glue 2 pieces together, like I did.

Step 2- Staple the strips together like so…

Step 3- Line up the bottom edge of each strip and staple them together.

Step 4- Add a ribbon at the top.

And finally, put it on the tree…

So crank up the Christmas music and happily decorate with smiling little faces, and kiss the Christmas tree GRINCH goodbye!
