Paint Swatch Paper Ornament!

Tis the season to save money, so why not create a paint swatch paper ornament?  This fun craft is perfect for the kids to help put together and very inexpensive considering paint swatches are FREE! Much like many of you, I had a few left over from a project I had completed.

Step 1- Glue 2 green paint swatches back to back ensuring the colors on both sides match.

Step 2- Starting in the middle, hand cut a tree shape on one side of the swatch.  If you are crafting with a little one, you can trace a line onto the paper for them to cut out.

This is a kids craft, so by no means does it have to be perfect. Imperfections add character!

Step 4- Stack 2 small pieces of yellow felt or paper and free-hand a little star.  Once again if your young one isn’t capable of free-handing a star you can cut it for them or trace a star with a marker for them to cut.

Step 5- Glue the stars onto the top of the tree ensuring both pieces will line up on both sides.

***WARNING*** Hot glue is hot!  If crafting with children make sure you do not leave a child unattended with the hot glue gun.  The adult should always operate the glue gun waiting a minimum of 15 seconds before allowing children to apply the felt and pom poms over the glue.  You can also substitute craft glue instead of hot glue to avoid kiddie burns.

Step 6-  Using a glue gun, (or craft glue) make small dots of glue on one side of the tree and allow the kids to “decorate” with the pom poms.  Once completed, flip the tree over and decorate the other side.  You can be creative with the decorating by using things you already have around the house (buttons, paper, glitter, ribbon, etc).
